As the 2016-2017 school year draws to a close, its time to look a bit into what next year will have in store for us. The newly-elected student body president and vice president will most definitely have a hand in how next year’s events and student council are run. Below you will find an interview with the President of the Student Body, Felipe Pardo ’18, about his new administration and what we can expect for next year.

Q: What about student council can we expect to be different next year?

A: The main thing would be communication, as you can see that wasn’t as prevalent in years past. For example, a lot of the sixth and seventh graders did not even know who the president was. Another idea that my vice president, Deiter Prussing, had was leaving a suggestion box outside of my office. One of the most important elements that I’m trying to improve next year is school and class unity. Whether it be through intermural sports or a school-wide scavenger hunt, I can promise that there will be more shared events.

Q: How did it feel to be the new president of the student body for the first few weeks?

A: It felt very good because it had been something that I had been dreaming about since freshman year. Knowing that hard work and dedication pay off is something that was extremely satisfying. As for my first few weeks as president, it can be summed up in the phrase, “no days off”. We also already started planning to fulfill the promises that were made in the campaign.

Q: What are some of the things that you and your cabinet have already begun planning for next year?

A: For this year, we have started organizing sixth and seventh grade intermural dodgeball which started last week. We’re planning on rolling out intermural sports for the rest of the school, next year. For the senior, we have the polos and jackets designed and approved, so they will be ready a month in advance.

Q: If you had to name one thing that can get us (students) hyped for next year, what would it be?

A: I can’t go in depth into anything right now, but I can tell you that me, Deiter, DQ, Mr. Jordan, and the board will do everything in our power to make next year the most fun year that you have ever had at Belen.
