Belen Jesuit’s new Builders Club is run mostly by middle school students. The club moderator and advisor is Mrs. Diana Fernandez, sixth grade math teacher. This club contains mostly sixth graders, along with some seventh and eighth graders. The meetings are particularly short, usually 30 to 45 minutes in duration. In the first couple of meetings, we elected our club council for the year, consisting of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and a Treasurer. The Builders Club is sort of like a middle school Key Club, so when you go to high school and you want to join Key Club, you already have an idea how the club works and you know what to expect in the meetings.

The club meets twice a month, and during these meetings, we discuss upcoming service opportunities that we can participate in. We conduct research to see which service opportunities can apply to both the Key Club and Builders Club, so that both clubs can participate together. We usually participate in the same events as the Key Club members, and we rarely do any service events without them.

One way you can sign up is during the first semester. In the first couple of weeks during lunch, there are clubs set up in the central patio with forms that you can sign if you would like to join. Builders Club is one of those clubs. You can also see Mrs. Fernandez to join. The fee is $15, and it’s a great club to be a part of if you are an involved person in your community.
