With the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year came the establishment of what is now known as the Esto Vir Group. This group is more than just another club, it is a youth ministry based on the Latin phrase mentioned by Father Willie during the first assembly of the school year. This phrase, esto vir, means “to be a man.” The phrase, however, does not mean to be a man of the society around us, but rather to be a man that lives and models their life after Christ. The mission of the group is to give students the opportunity to devote their lives to Christ. The goal of every group meeting and event is to develop students into young men who are committed to lives of work, service, and furthering their relationship with Christ. Esto Vir gives students an exciting and energetic community environment to grow in their faith.

“We talk about being ‘men for others,’ but we forget that in order to be one, we must first be men for God. We created the Esto Vir Group to bring out the men that God has created us to be, in his image and likeness,” said junior Eric Lastres, the new president of Esto Vir.

Another distinct feature of Esto Vir is that it is a branch of the Agrupación Católica Universitaria (ACU) and a marian sodality. The ACU’s connection to our school dates back to Belen in Cuba. The Agrupación was basically created so that high school graduates can continue to grow in their faith throughout their time in the university and their adulthood. The director of the ACU also happens to be our school president, Fr. Willie. So, in essence, Esto Vir is a pre-ACU for high school students. As previously stated, Esto Vir and the ACU are marian sodalities which are made up of a group who is devoted to venerating our blessed mother, Mary.

The Esto Vir Group is currently open to any student from eighth through twelfth grades. The group meets every other Thursday from 7:00-9:00 PM and is always open to new student members. If you are interested in joining or want more information, you can contact Campus Ministry or visit their website, www.estovirgroupmiami.org.
